The Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales filed a submission with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights concerning the advisory proceedings on the question of democracy in the Inter-American human rights system. The advisory proceedings were commenced at the request of the State of Guatemala. BHRC’s submission sought to highlight jurisprudence from the European Court of Human Rights with a focus on the human rights protections relevant to political parties and electoral bodies as important components of democratic societies.
