On 11 October 2021, BHRC Executive Committee Member and EuroMed Rights Executive Committee Member Dr Theodora Christou moderated the opening session of an online discussion hosted by EuroMed Rights about the status of the anti-racist movement in the Euro-Mediterranean region and ways of collaboration with the human rights movement. The session was held in the context of EuroMed’s 12th General Assembly.
The sessions looked at how human rights defenders and CSOs, based on both shores of the Mediterranean, can engage with the emerging anti-racist movements and activism in Europe; and discussed how the young anti-racist movement in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region could benefit from the experience of the early generations of human rights activists in coining principles such as the right to equal treatment, justice and freedom.
