The Bar Human Rights Committee of England & Wales (BHRC) and the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) is pleased to share that registration is now live for a virtual launch event marking the release of our new joint report, The Edge of Law: A regional approach to confronting key legal challenges.

This report is the culmination of a series of virtual dialogues held between November 2021-March 2022, through which BHRC and ABA ROLI sought to and succeeded in creating a regional platform where practitioners, academics, civil society actors and policymakers could openly discuss some of the most acute challenges to the rule of law in Asia, contributing to and building regional consensus on the human rights realities in Hong Kong, China, India, and other Central and Southeast Asian countries.

For this event we welcome back some of our key speakers from the Edge of Law events, to reflect on the findings of the report and their contributions to the key topics covered in the series: i) forced labour and modern slavery, ii) sanctions, iii) digital privacy and data protection, and iv) judicial independence.

Confirmed speakers for the launch event, which will be chaired by BHRC Chair Stephen Cragg QC, include Surya Deva, former Chair of the UN Working Group on Business & Human Rights, and Nighat Dad, Executive Director of the Digital Rights Foundation in Pakistan (who both contributed forewords for the report); Dr Felicity Gerry QC, leading international law practitioner, who authored the Executive Summary; and Desi Hanara, academic and international human rights practitioner.
