BHRC condemns sanctions imposed against Palestinian NGOs in the context of ICC-related advocacy

The Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales strongly condemns the decision of the US government to impose sanctions against Palestinian NGOs Al Haq, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights in the context of ICC-related submissions and advocacy.

The work of these organisations and many others is critical to documenting human rights abuses. These actions constitute a grave misuse of the sanctions regime and serve to grievously undermine due process, human rights and the rule of law, with serious implications for the ability of Palestinian and foreign NGOs to engage with human rights work in the occupied Palestinian territories.

We join Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and many other organisations in calling for these sanctions to be lifted with immediate effect.
